Very versatile smart lock
Some people like smart locks and others don’t. I fall in the camp that they are good for some applications, and not others. If you never need to give out access to a house or locked room, you probably don’t need one. If, however, you do and don’t want a lot of keys floating around then a smart lock makes sense. This smart lock is as versatile as any I have used. Not only do you have multiple local ways (RFID tag, key, keypad, fingerprint) to open it, you can link it to your wifi and use the TUYA app to open it from your phone or other device either locally or from anywhere you have internet access. This is a great feature for rentals or a house for sale. The hardware is well made and fits most doors and their existing deadbolt holes (fine on my door). An included template will help with the alignment if you need to cut holes. You WILL need a door hole saw kit though if you go this way. If all your holes are already cut, then no problem. Even if you have put these type of locks in before, it is best to follow the installation instructions as there is always some variance. Be careful routing the power cable and go under the linkage as it is easy to pinch it. Just be sure that the bolt assembly is not jammed and moves freely before tightening everything down. Once together, follow instructions EXACTLY and set the Admin code first. You can then proceed to set codes and allowed access. After you get the local codes set, you can also link the lock to wifi and the TUYA app if you wish. This app is necessary for remote control. I have other locks that work with this app, so it is convenient thi this one does also. To keep it simple, I try and use only locks that work with it. Overall, I like this lock. All smart locks are a little tedious to get set up initially, but this one has a good manual to help you out. It looks good, works well (so far), and is affordable.

Works well and has many unlocking options
I ordered this to replace an aging deadbolt on my side entry door. The installation process was similar to replacing a standard mechanical deadbolt, and except for batteries (it requires 8 AA), all the necessary hardware is included. Interestingly, this lock also appears to use a fairly common 5 pin key in knob style cylinder, and I was able to easily change it from the included SC1 keyway to a KW1 keyway by swapping the cylinder. This smart lock integrates with the Tuya Smart Life IoT platform, and since that’s the same platform my other smart devices use, it fits in perfectly. Connecting it to Smart Life was also easily accomplished, by following the usual process of connecting my phone to my 2.4GHz home WiFi network and using the Smart Life app’s add new device option. Once connected to Smart Life, I was able to set up PIN codes, fingerprint access, and RFID fobs (two are included). Everything worked as expected, and I was able to also get it connected to Alexa for locking and checking the locked/unlocked status of the lock (which is great for peace of mind), via voice commands. This was definitely a worthwhile home upgrade for the convenience and security of knowing that I can check on my lock from anywhere, via my phone. I’m very satisfied with this smart lock.

Nice smart lock. You MUST set an administrator password when setting it up, though!
Got this because my back door doesn’t actually have a deadbolt, and I wanted some extra security while also letting neighbors or family in while I was gone. I haven’t actually installed it yet because it’s been a bit too cold, but I did sit down with it on the table so I could figure out how it worked, and I’m actually pretty impressed. I’m fairly picky about my smart devices, and there are some things with this lock I really like. So, for what I like:The overall design is pretty nice. It’s a fairly standard lock design, but it’s executed well. The exterior housing is metal, which is nice– it won’t prevent somebody with a hammer from smashing it, but it looks nice and will stand up to weather better than plastic would.I like that the batteries are pretty easy to remove (because since this connects to WiFi instead of using something like Zigbee or Zwave, I expect it’ll go through batteries a couple times a year). The reset button is located under the battery compartment cover. That prevents somebody from just sliding a piece of wire under your door and pressing the button.RFID tag keys – this is really why I wanted to get this. I want to be able to hand somebody a tag, and know that they can’t just run to the local hardware store and copy it. RFID can be cloned, but it takes equipment most people don’t have. You can run this in local mode, without using the app or connecting it to a network. Local mode means you can’t remotely unlock it, or hand out temporary passcodes, but it also means somebody can’t get into your WiFi network and use a vulnerability to command your lock to open. Is anyone likely to do that? Probably not, but the possibility is there, and local mode means it can’t happen. What I don’t like:You MUST set an administrator password when setting this up. If you don’t, it will open for any fingerprint or RFID card that comes close to it. I would have preferred that it would “fail-safe” and reject all access requests before an administrator password was set, since it’s easy to assume setup can be finished later.Overall, I’m pretty happy with this, and I’m looking forward to getting it installed on my back door, just as soon as the weather cooperates!
