No more Ring cloud storage BS!!!!
REOLINK 2K Video Doorbell Wi-Fi Camera – A Comprehensive ReviewThe REOLINK 2K Video Doorbell Wi-Fi Camera offers an impressive combination of performance, features, and value. As smart home devices continue to evolve, video doorbells like this one promise enhanced security and convenience, and REOLINK’s offering delivers on many of these fronts. Below, we break down its key features, pros, and cons to help you decide if it’s the right choice for your home.Key Features:2K HD Video Quality: One of the standout features of the REOLINK doorbell is its 2K video resolution (2560×1920), which offers crisp, clear visuals. This is a step up from the typical 1080p resolution found in many video doorbells, providing better image clarity, especially in low-light conditions.Wide Field of View: The camera boasts a 160-degree wide-angle lens, giving you a broad view of visitors and the surrounding area. This wide field of view reduces blind spots and helps you see more of what’s happening outside your door.Two-Way Audio: The doorbell is equipped with two-way audio, which allows you to speak to visitors or delivery drivers via the REOLINK app. The sound quality is good, with minimal lag, making it ideal for communicating in real-time.Motion Detection & Alerts: REOLINK’s motion detection system is responsive and can be adjusted for sensitivity. You’ll receive alerts on your smartphone whenever motion is detected, allowing you to monitor any activity at your doorstep, whether you’re at home or away.Night Vision: The built-in infrared night vision ensures you can clearly see who’s at your door even in complete darkness. This is a critical feature for nighttime security, and the REOLINK doorbell handles it well.Storage Options: The REOLINK video doorbell supports both cloud storage (subscription required) and local storage via a microSD card (up to 128GB). This provides flexibility in how you store your video footage, though cloud storage will come with additional costs over time.Wi-Fi Connectivity: As a Wi-Fi-connected device, it’s relatively easy to set up and connect to your home network. The connection is stable, although performance can depend on the strength of your Wi-Fi signal at the installation site.Pros:Superior Video Quality: With 2K resolution, the video feed is sharp and clear, providing excellent detail. This is especially noticeable during the daytime but also performs well at night, thanks to effective night vision.Wide Angle Lens: The 160-degree field of view covers more ground, minimizing the need for additional cameras around your front door area.Reliable Motion Detection: Motion alerts are timely and accurate, with minimal false alarms. You can customize the detection area to focus on the most relevant spots, like your front door.Affordable: Compared to other high-resolution video doorbells on the market, the REOLINK 2K doorbell is priced competitively, offering great value for its features.Easy Installation: The setup process is fairly simple. You can mount the doorbell, connect it to your Wi-Fi, and start using it with minimal hassle. The app is intuitive, making the overall experience user-friendly.Cons:No Chime Included: Unlike some competitors, the REOLINK doorbell doesn’t come with an internal chime. You’ll need to pair it with a compatible chime or use the app to receive alerts on your phone.Cloud Storage Costs: While local storage options are free with the use of a microSD card, the cloud storage service comes with a subscription fee. This may not be ideal for users looking to keep ongoing costs low.Wi-Fi Range Sensitivity: If your Wi-Fi signal is weak or inconsistent, you may experience occasional lag or video dropouts. Ensure your router is within reasonable range of the doorbell for optimal performance.App Lag Occasionally: While the REOLINK app is mostly responsive, there can occasionally be a slight delay when loading live video or receiving notifications.Final Verdict:The REOLINK 2K Video Doorbell Wi-Fi Camera is an excellent option for those looking for a high-quality, feature-rich video doorbell without breaking the bank. Its 2K resolution, wide-angle lens, and night vision are standout features that provide excellent security benefits. The motion detection and two-way audio functions work well, adding to its value. While it may lack an internal chime and the cloud storage has additional costs, the overall package is strong, especially considering its price point. If you’re looking for a reliable and clear video doorbell that’s easy to set up and use, the REOLINK 2K Video Doorbell is a great choice.

    Almost perfect ..
3/3/2025 : The new house was set up with a R-ng camera which I didn’t like (poor video and subscription). I did research and chose Reolink for the excellent hardware and great video at affordable prices. I wanted the WiFi/LAN combo model because I need to use it with wifi now but will upgrade my doorbell wiring to PoE soon. Even on WiFi the video quality is amazing (make sure you have good wifi signal and use 5GHz band). I set this up with the smart home hub; it was sort of easy, but I was confused for a bit because I initially set the camera up on the app, then added it to the hub, but the app kept the stand alone option available on the main screen which did not work — so their software needs some streamlining for sure. As a standalone, I can’t comment, but with the hub it is excellent! No dropped signal, no missed doorbells, no missed alerts (I have the hub connected via Ethernet, and disabled the hub wifi, and added the doorbell to my home WiFi network for the same LAN that the hub is connected to). I’m looking forward to upgrading the doorbell and home with PoE connections, and installing more Reolink cameras (the video and audio is significantly better than e-fy). The app has a learning curve, but gives so many options!! I can toggle critical seers, and even set schedule for it. After putting fake Ivy on my gate and tweaking the “ignore zones” I don’t get false alerts from people walking by, but only when someone opens my patio gate and walks in. I have 24/7 recording. I am almost satisfied!! I had this logic in my selection of Reolink: it is easy to get software and firmware updates for cameras and apps and hubs, it is not easy to upgrade bad hardware. So, in the hope of Reolink improving their software, here is the suggestions and pain points. (1) when I receive push notification, it always takes me to live view, even after an hour!!! After five minutes of an alert, if I press the notification it should take me to the recorded event! (2) no rich notification without subscription (it’s ok, not a big deal). (3). The video recording section always defaults to 24/7 mode, so I always have to set filter for “people/package” every single time I use it (very painful!!). (4). MacBook client app doesn’t work. (5) MacBook Reolink app is just the iPad app, which is ok, but hard to navigate and once screen rotates is very hard to rotate back (6) even with fake ivy on fence, it alerts me when neighbor is in his patio, so AI could be a little better. These are software updates that I think would make Reolink so much better! Have face recognition might be cool to have, but is maybe not necessary if it slows down hub and increases electricity cost. But the video is so clear, (especially in clear mode), and the audio is also so clear!! With the previous doorbell it was hard for visitors to understand me when I spoke, but now it is super clear as well. Again, excellent hardware, but software needs some work. I’ll still give 5 stars because I want people to buy this brand.

Nice job, Reolink on the 2K wired Video Doorbell Camera
We’ve had this REOLINK 2K Video Doorbell Wi-Fi Camera with Chime installed now for about a week. We love the functionality and how easy it was to set up. The camera has a wide angle viewing area and the included wedge made sure we aren’t getting a picture of just the side of our house. It is connected to the pre-existing doorbell wiring but I left off a star because it doesn’t ring the existing doorbell chime. It wasn’t clear in the description that it would only draw power from the wiring and NOT use the existing chime box. Not to worry… the chime that comes with the unit it very easy to set up and it can be LOUD if you don’t adjust the volume! The ability to adjust the sensor area and the size and type of objects that trigger the alert is good. It may take a little tweaking to get it just right for your own situation. The connection and alerts are fast and the ability to talk through your phone to people at the door is great. The pre-recorded messages are also a nice feature. We installed a 256GB memory card and haven’t had any trouble with recording or playback. It’s a great doorbell camera. We’re thinking about getting the wireless version for the back door.

I had been using a Ring for over 4 years, just to this one. It’s half the price and no monthly fee. Better, crisp 2K picture, installs in a breeze. Minute controls over picture quality and detection. Package detection is excellent. Looks fantastic in white too. Need I say more ?

This camera system works great with Home Assistant. I don’t have the chime setup but I use my Google home devices setup to chime through Home Assistant. It does have a few second delay but very tolerable. Basically any option or sensor is passed through to HA, therefore automations are very easy to setup with the sensors as triggers.Great buy, would recommend if someone needs a device for HA.

The Reolink 2K Doorbell Camera is a solid choice for those looking for a feature-rich doorbell camera without recurring subscription fees. While my experience has been mostly positive, there are a few issues worth noting.Initial Setup and SD Card IssuesWhen I first installed the camera, I encountered some issues with the SD card. The card stopped functioning randomly, requiring me to remove and reinsert it before it could be formatted and work properly again. While this could be an SD card issue, it’s something to keep in mind. Since resetting the SD card, it has been functioning without further problems.Video Quality and Day/Night ModeThe footage quality is decent, capturing clear 2K video, but I’ve noticed occasional glitches with the auto day/night mode. On rare occasions, the camera remains in night mode all day and doesn’t automatically switch back to daytime mode. While this isn’t a frequent issue, it can be a bit inconvenient when it does happen.App and NotificationsOne of the standout features of this camera is the Reolink app, which works flawlessly. Notifications are fast and reliable, ensuring I don’t miss any important activity at my door. The app’s usability is excellent, with intuitive controls and easy access to live footage or recordings. No Subscription Fees – A Huge PlusOne of the biggest advantages of the Reolink 2K Doorbell Camera is that features like person, pet, and vehicle detection are included at no extra cost. Unlike competitors that lock these “smart” features behind subscription fees, Reolink offers them for free, making this camera a budget-friendly yet highly functional option. I hope Reolink continues to keep these features free, as it’s a significant selling point.Final ThoughtsDespite minor quirks like the SD card issue and occasional glitches with day/night mode, the Reolink 2K Doorbell Camera delivers great value for the price. It offers solid performance, a reliable app, and impressive smart detection features without the burden of monthly fees. If you’re looking for an affordable doorbell camera with robust features, I recommend giving this one a try.

I love that this doorbell does not require a subscription. Very easy to hardwire and sleek looking. You can put a memory card in it for storage and you can clear the recordings via the app to clear up storage space. In the 7 months I’ve had this, I’ve only needed to clear up storage space one time. There are so many great things I could say about this doorbell camera. I’m very happy to have this one as compared to other ones on the market that require a subscription.

Following a one-time issue with the camera in cold temperatures, the camera has been rock-steady ever since. We’ve had multiple -10DegC nights and the camera has worked flawlessly. It appears that one time issue was just a glitch.
