    Solid Security Upgrade
This thing is pretty neat. I bought it during a sale and got an incredible deal, so the price was definitely right (especially since shipping took almost three weeks). The video quality is really nice though, even at night you can see everything clearly, which gives me peace of mind. It’s easy to set up too, just follow the instructions in the app. I did have a bit of trouble connecting it to my Google Home but after restarting the router twice, it worked fine (I think sometimes my internet goes down when I’m not looking). It has all the features you’d expect from a modern smart doorbell like two-way audio and AI detection for people and cars. It even works with Alexa if that’s your thing. The only downside is that it doesn’t come with an SD card, so you’ll have to buy one separately if you want to store footage locally. Overall though, I think this is a great product, especially considering the price. My neighbor bought a different brand and paid way more for less features (he also complains about his internet going down all the time, maybe it’s just our area).

Fantastic video doorbell with local storage and AI features
I hate paying subscription services and I was looking for a doorbell that would give me a decent feature set without having to pay a monthly fee. The Tapo wired doorbell fit my need perfectly! My house wasn’t previously wired for a doorbell so I had to run bell wire and install a transformer but after I finally got it setup I was amazed at the quality. The Camera has a great high def picture and works fantastically in the dark. I have mine recording to a local SD card and have been impressed with the responsiveness. The app is a pleasure to use and allowed me to setup zones to avoid getting notices whenever cars drive down the road. The included AI processing works well and does a decent job of identifying people, packages, or motion. whenever someone rings my doorbell I now hear the included chime, and receive notifications on my alexa and google home devices.I would greatly recommend the TAPO doorbell but make sure you get an endurance rated SD card for local storage.

    Almost perfect…
I recently swapped out all of my various Google Nest Cameras for Tapo models and it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. The Tapo D230S1 checks off almost all boxes of what I had hoped the Nest Battery Doorbell was. The image quality, field of view and color night vision is superb. The setup is easy and went very smoothly. I have had this for a while now and my battery life is still good. Most importantly, you can add a micro SD card to the hub and it records clips locally without having to subscribe to a service like Nest Aware for this feature. The motion detection is good, however, the range is maybe a little less than the Nest. The audio quality is fine. It’s not great by any means but everything is audible and clear. I’ll say that Google Nest Cameras crush the competition when it comes to audio quality. The aesthetic, while subjective, is not my favorite and, frankly, I think it’s pretty ugly. It’s boxy and clunky and looks like it was developed in the early 2000’s or something. The latest announcement at CES 2024 promises a new design battery doorbell, the D225, which looks MUCH better and I will be scooping that up whenever it’s released. All in all, I’m really happy with this and the rest of my Tapo Cameras.

    Hard wired, usesexisting doorbell
Best camera for your house, being a doorbell camera, you get a front view of the person seeing their face and full frontal view. Also you can store all the data on an SD card in the doorbell camera itself no cloud storage services required, which saves you money. But theydo offer it, at a charge. Camera gives you two way voice and it will call you if it detects motion, it also has tags so I only have it detecting people only no cars no dogs no packages so I don’t get any false notifications. My Wi-Fi is Mash Network so I put a node close to the front door inside my house so it has a great fast connection to the doorbell camera. That helps when you want to retrieve some video of motion that happened or in my case a person coming to the house. I also suggest selecting the tags for people detection only. As the camera is always on pointing out to the street and cars go by all the time you don’t need to get notifications every time a car goes by or other things such as somebody writing a bicycle or anything else like that. When you watch the video as well it’s high quality image you can always zoom into the video to see higher amounts of detail and closer up even though it’s a fixed camera, he gives you the illusion like it was a camera moving, I would even buy this and use it inside my house or for my backyard, they do have a battery version as well of this doorbell camera. Also it does come with a chime for indoors as you wire it to your existing doorbell your existing doorbell will not work anymore as it’s supplying power for this video doorbell camera and they give you a chime unit you can plug it into any receptacle in your house so somebody comes and pushes the doorbell on this video camera it’ll ring the chime regardless of where it’s located it just needs to be plugged into AC power on the wall. I highly recommend this product it’s great quality, high quality video and free customer support is great 24/7 you just call tp-link. At the phone number they give you in the instructions in the Box. Also I want to mention that tp-link owns Tapo but all of their packaging is all paper-based I provided a picture of this the outer box and the inner box that holds all the components it’s a brown paper based and recyclable. I think that’s very environmentally responsible that’s also why I would buy more of their products no plastic whatsoever.

Wired this to a UK socket using a separately purchased transformer (just search doorbell adapter) in place of an existing similar device. Really easy to install, both physically and digitally and works seamlessly with the Tapo app and Alexa. Some really nice features are included without subscribing to Tapo care. Used the SD card from my original device and synced with my existing hub to act as a second chime so I could have a chime upstairs and one downstairs (just note, the one I bought came fitted with prongs for an overseas outlet so I needed a travel plug for it). Really like the colour night vision and the fact that you can manually trigger it too. The angle of the lens took some getting used to as it looks almost portrait to give the head to toe view from even 2 or 3 feet from the unit. Loved the addition of the line crossing feature and have already set an automation to turn the hall light on for a minute if a line crossing is triggered across either of the 2 lines I chose to set up. Also (it is a camera after all) the live view and playback quality are both excellent, crisp and clear whether in night vision, colour night vision or daytime mode.I paid a little over £70 for the device and a further £10 for the transformer to wire it to a standard UK outlet and at the price point I’d say it offers exceptional value for money. I have a multitude of other Tapo devices (hence the switch over) and I’m delighted with this device.

Good product, great price. First time using a video door bell and it works great. Installation was straightforward, instructions were easy to follow. I have other Tapo cameras in use however the motion sensors work best on this Tapo video door bell camera. When I turn off the feature to ignore vehicle motion detection, the camera actually stops picking up motion from vehicles. Whereas other Tapo camera products pick up every motion around it, ie., rain, snow, flashing lights, tree branches moving in the wind no matter how much I try to adjust the detection. Economically priced and no subscription fees therefore buy yourself a micro SD card if you intend to purchase this product to extend your historical recordings.
